It’s official: Danny Garcia to fight March 15th in Puerto Rico

By John DiSanto – PhillyBoxingHistory.com

The date of March 15th is now set for the return of junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, 27-0, 16 KOs. Garcia will defend his WBA, WBC & Ring Magazine championship belts in a 12-rounder against Californian Mauricio Herrera, 20-3, 7 KOs. In his last fight, Garcia scored his career-best performance with a unanimous decision over Lucas Matthysse. “It’s official. I’m fighting March 15 in Puerto Rico,” Garcia announced on Facebook.

Garcia’s parents were both born in Puerto Rico, and the fight with Herrera will be held in the hometown of Garcia’s mother, at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Baymon, Puerto Rico. Garcia was born and raised in Philadelphia.

Also on the card will be a heavyweight clash between Deontay Wilder and Malik Scott, and a featherweight fight between Juan Manuel Lopez and Daniel Ponce De Leon. The card will be televised by Showtime.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
