Bulgarian bantamweight Galina Ivanova (10-6-3) proved she is arguably the best bantamweight in the world by outpointing local favorite Oksana “Gyurza” Vasilyeva (8-4, 2 KOs) over ten hard-fought rounds today in Yakutsk, Russia. This encounter was unification between the WBC female champion (Ivanova) and WIBF titlist (Vasilyeva) and resulted in a narrow 96-95 points win for the guest boxer. Ivanova’s best triumph was a road victory over then 24-0 Dane Anita Christensen last summer; the fight in which he also captured WBA and GBU belts. She later vacated those titles. It was reported by local media that Vasilyeva had a flu for almost a week before the fight.
In the co-feature event of the evening, former kickboxing star Ayup Arsaev (8-0, 4 KOs) took a vacant Russian super featherweight title with a ten-round decision over Shavkhat Madaminov (9-2, 3 KOs).
Other results:
Oksana Romanova (7-9-1, 2 KOs) PTS 8 Maria Krovoshapkina (1-3)
Lidia Andreeva (2-0) PTS 6 Angel McKenzie (2-13)
