Japanese fighters invade Mexico City

The Japanese contingent for the “Mexico vs Japan Cup” made their arrival in Mexico City on Sunday. All will face Mexican opponents on Saturday in the legendary Arena Mexico in an event presented by Promociones del Pueblo and broadcast in Mexico by Televisa. Featherweight Akihiko Katagiri, super bantamweight Seizo Kono, super featherweight Akinori Kanai and female super flyweight Riyo Togo all said they came to Mexico to win.

Katagiri (12-6-1, 4 KOs) takes on former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (53-8, 45 KOs), Kono (13-4-1, 8 KOs) meets unbeaten Rey Vargas (13-0, 12 KOs), Kanai (25-7, 22 KOs) faces Dante “Crazy” Jardon (22-3, 18 KOs) and Togo (9-4-1, 8 KOs) collides with former world champion Mariana “Barbie” Juarez (36-6-2, 16 KOs) in a WBC eliminator.
