JC Salgado Update

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Former WBA super featherweight champion Juan Carlos Salgado (23-1-1, 16 KOs) will fight Dominican Argenis Mendez (18-1, 9 KOs) for the vacant IBF super featherweight world title on September 10 at venue to be announced on a card promoted by HG Boxing. The bout will be presented by Televisa Channel 5 on their “Sabados de Corona” telecast. “It’snot an easy fight,” said Salgado. “Dominicans are fast fighters, with a lot of physical strength. I’m working hard to neutralize that style and impose my punching power and technique in the ring. My goal is to return to being world champion and I know I’m going to achieve it!” Salgado trains daily with Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
