Undefeated world-ranked welterweight Jessie Vargas (19-0, 9KOs) worked out with trainer Robert Alcazar for the media Tuesday in preparation of his September 13th ESPN2 televised fight against Aron Martinez (18-1, 4KOs). The fight card will be held in The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Vargas, a Las Vegas resident, puts his unbeaten record on the line against Martinez in a 10-round welterweight bout. Vargas is ranked WBA #9, WBO #10. He has wins over former world champion Stevie Forbes and Josesito Lopez, who recently defeated Victor Ortiz and will be meeting “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th.
“I feel a lot stronger, much more powerful since I moved up to the welterweight division,” said Vargas. “I am looking forward to headlining my first televised card and hopefully to show the public why I should be considered the next up and coming star.” Ticket prices are $100, $50, $25 and may be purchased at The Joint box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone 800-745-3000. Doors open at 4 pm local time. The first bell is 5 pm.
