WBC featherweight world champion Jhonny Gonzalez is currently working on footwork and hopes that this is one of the advantages that will help him beat Daniel Ponce De Leon on September 15 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. “I feel fast and we are looking to move a lot. Ponce is a very difficult southpaw and a great fighter. I’ll use my intelligence and I’ll try to throw a lot of punches so I can take advantage of his carelessness. On this night I’ll be 100% and fully focused,” says Gonzalez at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City with his trainer Nacho Beristain. For the third consecutive year, Gonzalez will be fighting on Mexican Independence Day and that day is also his birthday (he’ll be 31). Gonzalez looks great shape right now with two weeks remaining to the fight and his team expects Jhonny’s excellent preparations will provide him with a lot of confidence to deal with anything Ponce De Leon may present.
