Joan Guzman: I’m still a force to be reckoned with

Former two-division world champion Joan Guzman (33-1-1, 20 KOs) will be seeking redemption on Friday night when he fights Vicente “El Loco” Mosquera (32-2-1, 17 KOs) in Kissimmee, Florida. Guzman is coming off the only loss of his career last November. He was unable to continue due to a leg injury caused by what was ruled an unintentional foul, resulting in a split technical decision loss to Kjabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) in a bout for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) super lightweight championship. Guzman-Mosquera will be for an interim version of the same belt, which Allakhverdiev still holds.

“I’m 100-percent recovered from my injury,” Guzman said from his Miami training camp. “I’m looking forward to showing the boxing world that I’m still a force to be reckoned with.” The twelve-rounder will be broadcast on “Boxeo Telemundo,” starting at 11:3PM ET.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
