Jones dethrones Rua!

In the main event of UFC 128 Jon Jones TKO’ed Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at 2:37 of the third round to become the youngest champion in UFC history saturday night in Newark, NJ. Jones wasted no time scoring with takedowns in round one and scored at will with punches and kicks. In the second Jones once again dominated Rua from the top position and battered the title holder. Round three saw Jones connect with several hard blows that forced Rua to the mat and, after standing up, finished the champion with a left hook and knee to the body.
Former WEC poster boy Urijah Faber made his Octagon debut a successful one by defeating Eddie Wineland via unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 29-28.
Lightweight Jim Miller continued in his quest for the world title by stopping Kamal Shalorus in the third round via TKO after connecting with a hard left uppercut. The official time of the stoppage was 2:15; it was Miller’s seventh straight victory.
Former middleweight title challenger Nate Marquardt outpointed Dan Miller after three one-sided rounds. Marquardt received scores of 30-27 on all cards.
After two competitive rounds, TUF 10 veteran Brandon Schaub KO’ed Mirko Cro Cop with a right hook behind the ear at 3:44 of the third and final period.
Light heavyweight Luis Cane scored a first round ground n’ pound TKO over Eliot Marshall at 2:15.
Eric Koch knocked opponent Raphael Assuncao unconscious with one clean right cross at 2:32 of round one.
Featherweight Edson Barboza defeated Anthony Njokuani via unanimous decision. Scores all read the same, 29-28.
Welterweight Mike Pyle defeated Ricardo Almeida via unanimous decision. Scores read 30-27 twice and 29-28.
Gleison Tibau defeated Kurt Pellegrino via split decision in a lightweight contest. All three scorecards read the same, 29-28.
Bantamweight Joseph Benavidez defeated Ian Loveland via unanimous decision. Scores read 30-27 twice and 29-28.
Nick Catone defeated Constantinos Philippou in a 195 lb. catchweight bout via unanimous decision. Scores all read the same, 30-27.
