Jones: Green is no Lacy

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. admits he is expecting a much tougher fight on Wednesday against IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green than he got when he easily defeated former IBF 168 pound champion Jeff Lacy in August. ”It’s a bigger guy coming at me, a stronger guy, a much quicker guy,” Jones stated. “Jeff Lacy was just a kid who really didn’t have an idea what he got himself into, so that was more child abuse.”

Green, meanwhile, thinks that he has been given no chance of winning against Jones by many, but plans to prove them all wrong when he steps into the ring on Wednesday at the Acer arena, Homebush, Sydney, NSW, Australia with a expected live gate of 20,000 and a global television audience. ”Do I think he’s underestimated me? Yes. I think everyone’s underestimated me,” commented Green.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
