Unbeaten world-ranked Mike Jones, of Philadelphia, one of the hottest prospects in the talent-laden welterweight division, has signed a new multi-year contract with Hall-of-Fame promoter J Russell Peltz, of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc. Jones, 26, who has been with Peltz since his pro debut in 2005, is the reigning NABA champion and he is ranked #7 by the WBA and well as ranked by the IBF and the WBC.
“I am happy with my progress,” said Jones, who has an eye-catching 19-0 record with 16 K0s, “but by the end of next year, with the help of my team (Peltz, co-managers Doc Nowicki and Jim Williams, trainer Vaughn Jackson), I want to be mentioned in the same breath as Pacquiao, Mayweather, Mosley and Berto. 2010 will be a breakout year for me. Watch and see!”
Peltz, never one for hyperbole, boasted that “Jones could be one of the most talented fighters I’ve been associated with in my 40 years in the business. Many in the media have already recognzed that Mike is the hottest prospect in the best division in boxing. We also know that HBO, Showtime, ESPN and Comcast are well aware of Mike and I look forward to working with them in furthering Mike’s career and widening his exposure to fight fans everywhere.”
