Jon “Bones” Jones lived up to the hype by stopping Brandon “The Truth” Vera with a vicious elbow at 3:19 of the opening round. Jones displayed quickness early in the fight by scoring a quick, snapping takedown. From his back, Vera landed an illegal upkick to the face of Jones which prompted a halt to action. Vera was penalized one point and the men were restarted with Jones inside the guard of his opponent. In a flash Jones ripped a hard, fast elbow into the face of his opponent. Vera immediately rolled onto his side in extreme pain and the fight was stopped immediately.
Proving once again to have the scariest left hook in the UFC heavyweight division, Junior Dos Santos stopped former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round with a blistering left hook. The official time of the stoppage was 3:53.
In a grueling heavyweight contest Cheick Kongo battered Paul Buentello for two brutal rounds until Buentello tapped from strikes midway through the third. The official time of the tap was 1:16 of the third round.
The middleweight bout between James Irvin and Alessio Sakara ended abruptly as Irvin was sent to the canvas following a stiff left hook. Irvin complained of an illegal eye-poke, however replays revealed the blow was a clean punch giving Sakara the TKO victory at 3:01 of round one.
Lightweight Clay Guida returned to his winning ways by submitting Shannon Gugerty with an arm triangle choke at 3:40 of the second round. Light heavyweight Vladimir Matyushenko outworked Eliot Marshall en route to a split decision. Scores read 30-27 twice and 29-27. The lightweight bout between Darren Elkins and Duane Ludwig ended in gruesome fashion as Ludwig suffered a terrible leg injury just :44 seconds into the fight giving Elkins the TKO victory. Former TUF 10 runner up Brendan Schaub stopped Chase Gormley early in the first round with a ferocious combination of punches. The end came just :47 seconds into round one. John Howard unleashed a devastating left hand from the top position to knock Daniel Roberts unconscious at 2:01 of the first round. Mike Pierce shut out Julio Paulino over three rounds in a welterweight bout. Scores all read the same, 30-27. Light heavyweight Jason Brilz defeated Eric Schafer via unanimous decision. Scores read 29-28 on all three cards.
