Jose Torres Gym inauguration

Everyone was all smiles at the inauguration of Gymnasium Jose “Chegui” Torres, in honor of the late former light heavyweight world champion from Puerto Rico. The event took place on Monday, November, 30th in the El Pueblo de Patillas in Puerto Rico. Torres passed away at the age of 72 on January 19th in Ponce, Puerto Rico. In attendance were WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel ‘Juanma’ Lopez, and former world champions Juan La Porte, Alex ‘Nene’ Sanchez, Alfredo ‘El Salsero’ Escalera, Víctor ‘Luvi’ Callejas, Ángel ‘Cholo’ Espada, contenders Juan Mercedes and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., as well as Promoters Ivan & Peter Rivera of PR Best Boxing and Sampson Lewkowicz, managers and trainers Orlando Piñero, Margaro Cruz y César González, and the President of the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission, Dommys Delgado Berty. Golden Boy Promotions, PR Best Boxing Promotins, and Felix ‘Tutico’ Zabala (All Star Boxing) donated equipment to the gymnasium.
