Today, after a long period of hard work and dedication, former world title challenger José Cotto feels he’s achieved his objective. He weighed 144.5 at the official weigh-in for the event Boxeo Boricua in Las Piedras, to be presented tomorrow, starting at 8PM. José Cotto recognized that “it’s been difficult (re-conditioning for the bout) but I’m in great shape now.” He also assured that he’s “ready to regain my position in boxing.”
In the main event, Luis Cruz will defend his USNBC featherweight tittle against 27-year-old Colombian fighter Yogli Herrera (22-8, 15 KOs). Cruz weighed 125.5 pounds against 125 pounds for the 5’5 ½ challenger. Herrera went on saying that “in the past I fell short of luck, but this time I have prepared myself enough so I don’t have to depend in being lucky to win this fight”.
Even though Cruz admitted that “on paper, he (Herrera) may be the most difficult adversary that I have face in my career,” he feels confident on retaining his title.
Also appearing on the fight card will be young prospects Jayson “La Maravilla” Vélez (121.75) and Abner “Pin” Cotto (134).
