Jose Rodriguez takes interim WBA belt by split decision over Nethra Sasiprapa

Mexican José “Torito” Rodriguez took a hard fought split decision over powerful Thai challenger Nethra Sasiprapa to win the vacant WBA interim light flyweight world title in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Judges scored it 114-112 and 113-111 for Rodriguez and 114-111 for Sasiprapa. Referee Russell Mora deducted points for low blows in rounds one and seven from Sasiprapa and one point for a low blow by Hernandez in round six. With the win, Rodriguez becomes the first boxer born in Mazatlan to win a world boxing title. The card was promoted by Zapari Boxing and Canelo Promotions.
