Joyi set to defend in Mexico

On September 1 at the Gimnasio Municipal in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, former world champion Erik Morales (Box Latino) and Reginaldo & Oswaldo Kuchle (Promociones del Pueblo) will promote an IBF minimumweight world title clash between undefeated IBF champion Nkosinathi Joyi of South Africa against Mexico’s Mario “Dragoncito” Rodriguez (14-6-4, 10 KOs). IBF champion Joyi previously held the South African and IBO minimumweight titles and is now 22-0 with 15 KOs and one no-contest.

The assigned IBF officials are supervisor Dave McCullough (Texas), referee Pete Podgorski (USA), and judges are Bill Lerch (USA), Neville Hotz (South Africa) and Alfredo Polanco (Mexico).

The card will also host an IBF Latino bantamweight championship between Lius “Pollito” Ceja (20-0, 19 KOs) and Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia (38-9, 22 KOs).

In addition there will be a female IBF world title bout between Ava Knight (9-1-3, 5 KOs) and undefeated challenger Jessica Nery Plata (6-0, 1 KO).

The show will be televised in Mexico on Televisa.
