Undefeated world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez is right at home in New York City, where he landed on Thursday for his next Saturday challenge of WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano. Lopez of Caguas, Puerto Rico came in early to New York, hoping to adapt to the cold and to make sure that he would be at his best when he takes on his most difficult challenge of his professional career. “I have a lot of respect for Steven Luevano. He is a very intelligent boxer and I will need to be at my best to beat him,” said Lopez.

Lopez, the current WBO junior bantamweight champion will challenge Luevano for his WBO featherweight championship on Saturday, January 23 at the Theater in Madison Square Garden in the main event of a show to be televised by HBO. In the co-feature Yuriorkis Gamboa will defended his WBA championship belt against Roger Mtawga.
Juanma, his wife Barbara de Jesus and his son “Juanmita” were special guests at the New York Knicks game on Friday night where they ran into former world champion Paulie Malignaggi.
Lopez trained today in New York and will continue to workout this week in the Big Apple. His good friend Felix “Tito” Trinidad is coming to New York next Thursday to be with him at the weigh-in and fight.
