WBO junior featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez (26-0, 24 KOs) is freshly off his impressive Pay-Per-View debut where he defeated Olivier Lontchi by 9th round TKO. Since his victory, the champ has been keeping himself busy. Today the Top Rank and PR Best Boxing (Ivan & Peter Rivera) promoted Lopez stood in for the entire practice of Puerto Rico’s national volleyball team in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The team is in preparation for an important final. Lopez fans need not worry about a career move, as he was only there in support of his countryman. Lopez is expected to return to ring possibly in September.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
