Cancer patient Bryan Romero got a very special gift on Tuesday when world champion Juan Manuel Lopez came by for a visit to his room at the Puerto Rican Medical Center. Romero had ask to meet the undefeated champion and his wish was granted on his fifteenth birthday. The normally talkative Romero was left speechless by Lopez his favorite boxer. As Lopez spoke to him about his next fight, Romero admired his championship belt and was only able to say, “I can’t believe that you’re here.”

Lopez made the visit after a press conference in Guaynabo and before heading to training in Caguas. “It’s something that I like to do when I can. I have so much, and all this kid wanted was to meet me. This is the least that I can do for him”.

Lopez is getting ready to defend his WBO Jr. Featherweight championship belt on June 27 in Atlantic City, New Jersey against Olivier Lontchi. Lopez took some pictures with Romero and his nurses and doctors and then gave him an autographed picture as the teenager looked on with a big smile.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
