On Thursday WBC President Jose Sulaiman presided over the prefight press conference for the female super fight between WBC flyweight champion Mariana Juarez and IBF flyweight champion Ava Knight for the WBC Diamond belt. Knight-Juarez takes place Saturday at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. “This is one of the greatest female fights of this era in this division,” said Oswaldo Kuchle, President of Promociones del Pueblo. “We want to do the best male and female world title fights. We’re ready to continue bringing best boxing events.” This will be the second time the diamond belt has been on the line in a female fight, the first being Ana Maria Torres vs. Jackie Nava in April 2012. The diamond belt was created by the WBC to be delivered only to elite champions.
Others fights on the card include super featherweights Miguel Roman and Dante Jardon for the vacant WBC Continental Americas belt, and super lightweights Mauricio Pintor and Ricardo Alvarez for the vacant WBC International title.
