July is a big month for Midwest middleweights

By Johnny B’

Summer is generally slow for boxing, but the middleweight division looks to heat up in the summer months in the Midwest portion of the USA. Action begins July 6th in Carlton, Minnesota, featuring 160-pounder Cerresso Fort (16-1-1, 11 KOs) from St. Paul, MN.

Davenport, Iowa, follows on Saturday July 13th as undefeated Illinois middleweight George Carter Jr. (9-0, 5 KOs) heads that ten bout card.

Next up is the July 19th show in Cicero, Illinois, featuring middleweight Ronald Hearns of Detroit (26-4, 20 KOs) in the main event.

July features more middleweight action in Cicero, on the 26th as Osumanu Adama (21-3, 15 KOs) from Ghana, now living and fighting out of Joliet, Illinois will headline that card.

Two of these middleweight contests are expected to be for regional title belts as the USA Midwest and Mid-American middleweight titles are both currently vacant.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
