Jun bests Baat, defends WBC Asia Continental super bantamweight title; “Molecule from Hell” Orlov wins WBC Asia Continental heavyweight title

By Loren Goodman

In the twelve-round main event in Daying, China, up-and-coming prospect Qiu Xiao Jun (12- 2, 4 KOs) displayed an impressive repertoire of boxing skills to defend his WBC Asia Continental super bantamweight title against tenacious Japan-based Filipino southpaw Jonathan Baat (25-5-3, 12 KOs) on Friday in Daying, China. While Jun sent Baat to the canvas in round three, Baat rallied in the later rounds. Jun emerged victorious by scores of 116-112, 119-111, 116-113.

In the ten-round semifinal for the vacant WBC Asia Continental heavyweight title, Evgeny “Molecule from Hell” Orlov (15-12-1, 11 KOs) stopped former OPBF Heavyweight champion Peter Okello (21-8, 19 KOs) when Okello retired in the corner after round nine.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
