Kameda batters Pool

By Joe Koizumi

Ex-WBA 108-pound champ Koki Kameda (21-0, 14 KOs), 113.25, decked an easy tune-up bout prior to his WBC shot against compatriot Daisuke Naito in November, as he floored miserably overmatched Mexican Humberto Pool (15-9-3, 9 KOs), 113.25, three times to score a KO win at 2:29 of the fifth round on Saturday afternoon in Tokyo, Japan. Pool suffered his sixth defeat in last seven bouts, following a third-round KO loss to Brahim Asloum in his comeback go in France this April. It is a pity that many mediocre Mexicans recently came here only to be Japanese prospects’ victims in overmatched games. Probably Kameda used Pool as his safe stepping stone before his already slated title crack at Naito. Promoter: Kameda Promotions.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
