Unbeaten Bahodir Mamadjonov will step in to face Darley Perez on August 10th, Gary Shaw Promotions matchmaker John Beninati told Fightnews.com Tuesday morning. Mamadjonov replaces former world title holder Michael Katsidis, who had to withdraw from the fight because of a knee injury suffered in training less than two weeks ago. The 10-round bout will take place at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, CA and will headline an ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” card.
Prior to making his professional debut, Mamadjonov (11-0, 7 KOs) migrated from his native Uzbekistan to Houston, TX, where he now lives and trains.
Mamadjonov has faced two recognizable fighters thus far in his career. He won a one-sided six round unanimous decision over former amateur standout Archie Ray Marquez in November. In March, Mamadjonov won an eight round split decision victory over fringe contender Michael Clark.
In his last bout on May 11th, Mamadjonov stopped overmatched Terrence Roy in the second round of a scheduled six round bout.
He has recently fought his last four bouts at or above the junior welterweight limit.
The Colombian-born Perez (25-0, 19 KOs) is promoted by both Gary Shaw and Thompson Boxing Promotions. He is ranked in the top 10 by all four major sanctioning bodies.
Perez’s most impressive performance as a pro was last September, when he forced fringe contender Oscar Meza to quit on his stool after the sixth round.
In his last bout on April 6th, Perez knocked out Alain Hernandez in the second round of a scheduled eight round bout.
