Kayode close to title shot

By Francisco Salazar

Unbeaten cruiserweight contender Lateef Kayode could possibly fight for his first world title belt in his next bout, according to Gary Shaw, his promoter. Shaw told that he is attempting to arrange a bout with the IBF’s top available contender in an elimination bout. GSP matchmaker John Beninati also told Fightnews that they are looking to arrange a bout against world title holder Guillermo Jones. Kayode (17-0, 14 KO’s) is the number one ranked contender for Jones’ belt and is ranked in the top five of the other sanctioning bodies. “We’re looking to get Lateef in the ring in the fall, sometime in October,” said Shaw. The Nigerian-born Kayode resides in Hollywood, CA and trains at the famed Wild Card Gym under Freddie Roach.
