In a clash of unbeaten bantamweights, “The San Diego Kid” Chris Martin (19-0-2, 5 KOs) surprised world-ranked Chris Avalos (16-1, 13 KOs), taking a ten round split decision on Friday night at the Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota. Martin simply outboxed the bigger punching Avalos, compiling a 98-92, 97-93 advantage on two cards. The other card was bizarrely 98-94 for Avalos.

Undefeated Freddie Roach-trained cruiserweight Lateef “Power” Kayode (13-0, 12 KOs) scored his 12th consecutive knockout against Alfredo Escalera, Jr. (18-3-1, 12 KOs), the son and namesake of the former world champion. Kayode dominated the fight and got the stoppage after dropping Escalera at the end of round eight. The bout was officially stopped at :01 of round nine.
