Kentikian/Brähmer wrap-up

Strong TV ratings for Saturday’s Universum Champions Night event featuring world champions Susi Kentikian and Jürgen Brähmer. The live telecast of the Killer Queen’s bout against Nadia Raoui attracted 3.4 million viewers and a 23.2 share around midnight. A taped telecast of Brähmer against Mariano Plotinsky still had 2.49 million viewers and a 25.6% market share at nearly 1AM. Those matches, plus four more, can be seen in their entirety on www.youtube.com/UBPboxing. “We saw fantastic boxing fights in a sold-out arena,” said Universum promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl. “Certainly that’s a great thing though we could have sold more tickets in a bigger arena. Jürgen has become more and more stabilized and confident in his fights and we aren’t afraid of bigger fights for him. We now aim for a unification bout.”

“The female fight was a highlight as we had predicted. After the 8th round it was a draw on the scorecards and the ninth round went to Susi and the final round was close one. I’m trying to see it in an objective way and don’t want to see things through rose-colored glasses. I didn’t see either Susi or Nadia three points ahead but I don’t think that Nadia won the fight. We are thinking about a rematch and both fighters were very convinced about their performance.”

“About our future: we will not sell short and we will continue. We’ve just extended our contract with Adidas for another 3 years and they wouldn’t extend this deal if they don’t know how it will continue.”

Jürgen Brähmer: “My last fight was important as I have learned a lot although it had hurt. Today I was able to speed up from round to round and increase my pressure on my opponent. I felt great and I believe you were able to see it. I was surprised how many punches Plotinsky took without showing any effects.”

“I’m always trying to prepare myself carefully for every challenge in order to beat every opponent facing me next.”

Brähmer’s trainer Michael Timm: “You are always satisfied with a victory. Today Jürgen showed was we had trained for: variability and explosive attacking. He had dominated the fight clearly.”

Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky: “It was a great fight but I couldn’t show what I’m really up to. I felt quite tired due to the long trip but this shouldn’t be an excuse.”

Susi Kentikian: “It has been a very difficult fight. Nadia was good but not better so that’s why it wasn’t enough to win. I’m very satisfied, it has been an exciting day and it was a great feeling to be the headliner in a live fight on ZDF. It’s my aim now to claim also the WBC belt. This wasn’t my toughest fight, I had tougher ones in the past. I’m the winner and the world champion.”

Kentikian’s trainer Magomed Schaburow: “We have won the fight but we could have done it better. Nadia kept up with us but that’s it. To me Susi was ahead with 2 – 3 points. Susi could have fought with more pressure and landing more and harder punches. Nadia is fighting like a machine and that has impressed the crowd and the judges.”

Nadia Raoui: “I have seen the fight very clearly and I’m hundred percent sure that I have won it and the crowd was the same opinion. I have dominated her and I’m very satisfied and could have gone for another couple more rounds. I think I have shown a great performance today. I’m hope I have impressed people with my boxing skills today. Let’s see how it goes. Susi is is tough fighter but I have shown that I can put up resistance against.”

Raoui’s trainer Dietmar Berg: “By the end of the fight I had us in front on the scorecards by three points. I had the impressions that Nadia had implemented all the things we had practiced in training and she had landed more and the clearer punches. May be we will meet again inside the ring.”
