Super-middleweight rivals Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler met face-to-face today in London, at a press conference to officially announce their eagerly awaited rematch set for The O2 in the nation’s capital on May 25th. The two former “Super Six” entrants have massive respect for one another and ahead of the return – which will contest both “The Cobra’s” IBF crown and “The Viking Warrior’s” WBA belt – both men gave some interesting statements.
Froch, 30-2(22), who lost a hugely exciting decision against Kessler in Herning back in April of 2010, said that “When my head hit’s the pillow I still think about the defeat to Mikkel.” Froch vowed revenge, saying “A win will secure my legacy,” before adding, “There will be a bloody aftermath, because neither of us will want to concede any ground. Our rematch will be savage.”
For his part, visiting warrior Kessler, 46-2(35) said he would have “Fought Froch on the street, anywhere!” to secure the return. The Dane also stated that he has “studied Carl since the first fight” and that he has all the tools needed to defeat him for a second time.
Both fighters need this victory and the fan attention has already proven massive, with Boxing News reporting how an impressive 7,000 tickets were sold within 30-minutes of going on sale. Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Froch, confidently predicts a 17,000 sell-out long before fight night!
