“At this point, Peterson is not licensed to fight in Nevada,” Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer told the Las Vegas Review Journal. “We have not received his medicals or paperwork, which is not that unusual as a lot of fighters wait until the week of the fight. But given the circumstances, I have no plans to license him at this time.” According to various sources, Peterson has admittedly taken “testosterone pellets” last year. The Peterson camp has submitted an explanation to the NSAC, who will make a decision on the status of the fight. If Peterson is scratched, it’s unclear whether Golden Boy will be able to find a suitable replacement opponent for Khan acceptable to HBO in less than two weeks or if the entire event will be scrapped. Peterson’s WBA and IBF world titles would likely become vacant.
