Unbeaten lightweight Andrey Klimov (15-0, 8 KOs) of Russia unanimously decisioned power punching Matias Gomez (29-2, 28 KOs) of Argentina to win the vacant IBF Inter-Continental title on Friday in Moscow, Russia. Klimov was in control from the very first round of the bout outboxing his aggressive foe. In round two Klimov was cut by what was ruled an accidental headbutt. Though bleeding from the cut, Klimov showed his heart and poise as he still was able remain in command of the fight landing good powershots throughout. Gomez was game and took some good shots from Klimov but at no point was he able to take control of the fight. Klimov´s cut worsened as the fight went on and after round seven the bout was halted due to the cut and sent to the scorecards. All three judges had Klimov ahead 69-64. Big statement win for Klimov who when the bout with Gomez was signed was the IBF inter-continental 15th ranked lightweight, Gomez was number one. Klimov´s team immediately focused their attention on seeking out a voluntary title defense from current IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez.
