Promoter Frank Warren says unbeaten British heavyweight and Commonwealth champion Derek Chisora (14-0, 9 KOs) has been offered a December 11 title shot against IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. “The money on the table is not amazing,” Warren wrote in his column in The Sun, “but Derek has told me he just wants the opportunity to prove himself. Part of the deal for the fight will be a couple of options on Del Boy if he wins.”
A win over Chisora would add fuel to the fire in the UK for a showdown between Wlad and WBA champ David Haye, as well as eliminate another possible domestic opponent for “The Haymaker,” who takes on countryman Audley Harrison on November 13.
Other names who have been linked to Wlad’s next defense were David Tua and Chauncy Welliver. Despite coming off of a disappointing draw against Monte Barrett, the Tua camp passed on the title shot alleging a lowball offer. Tua will now likely take a tune-up in the US, then focus on a rematch with Barrett in New Zealand. Welliver is considered an alternative if Klitschko-Chisora falls apart.
