Kohl: Universum will continue

Universum
After the end of the eight year highly successful run with the ZDF network on Saturday, Universum Box-Promotion chief Klaus-Peter Kohl has announced plans the company’s future in the boxing business. “As of August I will personally take over the management,” said Kohl. “In close collaboration with my son-in-law Dietmar Poszwa, we will adapt to the market and continue with a newly formed, smaller team under an entirely new structure. We still have a lot of plans. The boxers and trainers will not be affected by the restructuring.“
Kohl continued, “In the last few weeks and months there has been much speculation about our company. This is a testament to the high interest in us, which is nice. I can reassure all boxing fans that we will definitely continue in this wonderful sport. On TV negotiations, I can’t currently be specific. We are right in the middle of negotiations for a new concept. We’ll comment specifically at the appropriate time. There are many ideas, we’ll see what can be achieved. We have offers for our boxers from all over the world. We need to see what makes sense.”
Regarding Universum’s innovative use of the new media, Kohl stated, “I’m thrilled with how active the fans are talking about our fights. Many give their views in our new networks such as YouTube and Facebook. This coming weekend we will break the sound barrier with over a million views on our new YouTube channel. We only launched this great project about three months ago. To me this is incredible and shows our value. We will continue to accelerate in this sector.”
During Universum’s eight year association with ZDF, 19 world champions were crowned on 109 fight dates, while five other champions defended their titles. The final chapter will be written Saturday at the o2-World in Hamburg, with all tickets priced at 30 euros and half the proceeds going to the charitable organization “A Heart for Children.”
