Kokiet, Zhong best of WBC Asia 2012

Asian Boxing Council (ABCO), a regional organization affiliated with WBC, had held “WBC Asia and WBC Muaythai Press Conference 2013″ last Thursday at Asia Hotel in Ratchathewi, Bangkok, Thailand. The highlight of the event was the annual awards’ presentation to the boxers and promoters who have an outstanding achievement during the year 2012. The WBC Asia Boxer of the Year is the WBC strawweight champion Xiong Zhao Zhong, the first Chinese fighter who wins the world professional boxing title. The WBC Asia Promoter of the year is Mr.Kokiet Panichayarom of Kokiet Group Promotion who promoted 17 WBC Asia championship bouts during 2012.

The others WBC Asia awards of 2012 were as follows;

Fighters awards

1. WBC Asia champion of the year: Sod Kokietgym (Thailand) WBC Asia superbantamweight champion

2. WBC Asia Continental champion of the year: Rex Tso (Hong Kong) WBC Asia Continental super flyweight champion

3. WBC Asia prospect of the year : Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (Thailand). Srisaket will challenge Japanese Yota Sato for WBC super flyweight title world in Thailand on May 3.

4. WBC Asia Fight of the year : Jomthong Singwancha (Thailand) and Ranel Suco (Philippines) for WBC All Asia superfeatherweight championship bout.

1. WBC Asia Pacific Region Promoter of the Year 2012 : Mr.Brico Santig (Philippines)

2. WBC Asia China Zone Promoter of the Year: Mr.Liu Gang (China)

3. WBC Asia China SAR Promoter of the Year: Mr.Jay Lau (Hong Kong)

4. WBC Asia Central Asia Promoter of the Year : Mr.Yerik Jailauov (Kazakhstan)

5. WBC Asia Australasia Promoter of the Year : Mr.Peter Maniatis (Australia)

6. WBC Asia Youth Championship Promoter of the year : Mr.Virat Vachirarattanawongsi (Thailand)

7. WBC Asia Female Promoter of the Year: Ms.Pariyakorn Rattanasuban (Thailand)

8. WBC Asia Distinguished Promoter of the Year: Mr.Surachart Pisitwuttinan (Thailand)

9. WBC Asia Honorary Promoter of the year : Mr.Narongwas Buamas (Thailand)

10. WBC Asia Honorary Promoter of the year : Mr.Ekarat Chaichotcheong (Thailand)

11. WBC Asia Supporter of the year : Mr.Naris Singhawungcha (Thailand)

Before the award presentation, WBC Muaythai Secretary General Mr.Patric Cusick gave a report on the status of WBC Muaythai. ABCO Executive Secretary Colonel Damrong Simakajornboon gave a report on the activities and current situation of WBC Asia which concluded that ABCO being the most active regional organization in Asia-Pacific in 2012. WBC Asia titles were promoted 51 times (30 WBC Asia, 17 WBC Asia Continental and 4 WBC Asia Female), comparing with PABA/PABA Super Champ (50 times), WBO Asia-Pacific/Oriental (47 times) and IBF Pan Pacific/Australasian (25 times). The press conference was finished by Gen.Kovid Bhakdibhumi who delivered the keynote speech, emphasizing on boxing saving standard and Boxing Anti Drug (BAD) project in Thailand.

Also, there was the sounding of the 10-bell count in posthumous homage to legendary Muaythai Master Kru Yodthong Senanan who recently passed away on February 8 at the age of 76.
