After several cancellations and postponements, WBO interim super welterweight champion Lukas Konecny will finally face WBO titleholder Zaurbek Baysangurov for the full WBO championship on October 6. The event will be run as a co-promotion of SES-Boxing and K2 Promotions and take place at the “Palace of Sports” in Kiev, Ukraine.
Lukas Konecny: “After winning the title I’ve had so much positive feedback from the entire boxing world and with the euphoria in my home country, the Czech Republic, I’m sure that against Baysangurov I’ll secure “absolute power” in the super welterweight division. I’ve worked for this title for so long, and overcome so many disappointments – I can only win. I have a responsibility to my countrymen and my family!”
SES promoter Ulf Steinforth: “I’m glad that this “showdown” is coming in this weight class. If Lukas Konecny shows the form he has shown, especially in his last fight, this will be the “final coronation” as he shows he is the best super welterweight the world!”
The first Czech world champion and boxing national hero Lukas Konecny impressively secured his long-awaited WBO world championship belt against Frenchman Salim Larby in April in his hometown of Brno. The interim championship was necessary after WBO champion Baysangurov pulled out with a back injury three weeks before the scheduled fight. In Kiev, the “final” WBO world champion will now be crowned.
