European super welterweight champion and SES fighter Lukas Konecny (46-3, 22 KOs) will have his first mandatory title defense on May 27 in his Czech hometown of Usti nad Labem. He will jeopardize his belt against Frechman Hussein Bayram (34-3, 19 KOs). The fight at the Zlatopramen Arena in Usti will also be a special moment for the first European champion in the Czech boxing history. Lukas Konecny, one longest members in the SES boxing team, will step into the ring in his 50th pro fight. “In this jubilee I want to shine especially in front of my fans. Bayram will have no chance. Besides I haven’t reached my biggest goal yet as I want to win the world title,” the 32 year old Konecny said. In order to increase his chances for a world title fight very soon he will also fight for the WBO interconti belt alongside his Euro title. He is currently on the short list of the EBU to be named “Athlete of the year.” As one of the most successful professional athletes of the Czech Republic he already receives a high recognition. Lukas Konecny has been named the national coach of the Czech Amateur boxing team.

German TV channel SPORT1 (10 pm til midnight) as well as other European TV stations will televise live the fight of Lukas Konecny from the Zlatopramen Arena in Usti.

Tickets for the European and WBO interconti championship will go on sale today at all known ticket shops and also on the internet at www.ticketstream.cz.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
