WBC #3 light heavyweight David “Cygan” Kostecki (35-1, 24 KOs) was a star during a “Hilton Boxing Night” in Warsaw, Poland, winning by KO in the fourth round against Sean Corbin (14- 3, 10 KOs). Kostecki needed only four rounds to solidify his position as a WBC title contender. Only in the second round did he have some problems with taller and somewhat agiler opponent. The bout ended when the fighter from Guyana got knocked out by quick straight right, left combination and although Corbin was able to beat a ten count, referee Daniel Van de Wiele was correct in ending the fight.
Andrzej Wasilewski from ” KnockOut Promotions,” who represents also Polish WBC cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, indicated that he would like to see Kostecki fighting for the title as early as March-April of next year. “We will carefully look at the rankings. Kostecki is ready to fight the best in the world, this is his wish and as a promoter I have an obligation to help him,” said Wasilewski after the fight.
Tomasz Adamek, currently top 5 heavyweight in the world, was the last Polish WBC light heavyweight champion, winning the title in 2005 after a fight of the year candidate against Paul Briggs.
