Kovalev: I’ve trained to go three rounds, but no one can guarantee that this fight will go past three

At Tuesday’s media workout in Newport, light heavyweight challenger Sergey Kovalev had some fierce words for the WBO champion Nathan Cleverly, who he faces on Saturday night at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena. The undefeated Kovalev, who has destroyed 19 of his 21 opponents with 18 coming inside the first three rounds, is predicting a similar outcome for Cleverly. “Cleverly is my toughest test, he’s a good, fast fighter who throws a lot of punches, but I think it will be a similar outcome on Saturday night,” said Kovalev, who also took a snipe at Cleverly and his father/trainer Vince, saying the pair “talked a little too much.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
