Before a sellout crowd of nearly 7,000, former world champion Mariana “La Barbie” Juarez avenged her TKO1 loss to Japan’s Riyo Togo three months ago by scoring an exciting ten round unanimous decision at the Centro de Espectáculos de la Feria in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Scores were 98-93, 97-93 and 98-93 for La Barbie, who reclaimed the WBC female silver super flyweight belt. Juarez showed better boxing technique in the early rounds, then midway launched into constant exchanges with Togo until the last round.

“I knew it would be hard and I had to give my best to recover from the defeat in the first round and tonight is for the women of Mexico. I want to be world champion and I hope they give me that opportunity,” said Juarez

In other action, former world champion Ramon “Principe” Garcia (18-4-1, 10 KOs) scored an eighth round KO against world ranked Juan Hernandez (22-3, 16 KOs) in a light flyweight clash. With this victory, Garcia is approaching a new world title opportunity.

In other action, lightweight Nery Saguilan (26-3-1, 10 KOs) won a hard fought ten round unanimous decision over Pedro Navarrete (28-18-3, 17 KOs).

The card was promoted by Promociones del Pueblo.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
