At a press conference Monday in Los Angeles, popular Mexican WBC flyweight world champion Mariana “La Barbie” Juarez (34-5-3, 16 KOs) and Japanese challenger Shindo Go (10-1, 8 KOs) faced off in advance of their title fight this Saturday at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. Juarez last fought in the United States in 2007. This is the seventh defense of the WBC belt Juarez won from Simona Galassi in March 2011. Previously she had seven WBC interim title fights. “I had a hard time taking this title from a great champion Simona Galassi,” says Juarez, “and since that day to keep it I give it all with great effort. I want to do my best and I try in every fight. I want be remembered in history as a great boxer.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
