In Oclatan, Jalico, Mexico, 22-year-old super bantamweight phenom Jorge Lara (24-0-1,17 KOs) needed only one round to stop in explosive fashion former WBC silver champion Oscar Ibarra ( 27-10, 18 KOs). Using his southpaw stance to perfection, Lara, one of Mexico’s rising stars, mercilessly clobbered Ibarra from the get go with powerful left hooks, sending him to the canvas. Ibarra got up at the count of 8 but continued receiving a barrage of punches that forced the referee to stop the totally unequal combat at 2.10 seconds of the bout. It was the promising Lara’s tenth first round stoppage. The only blot in his record is a 2 round technical draw at the beginning of his career. Lara should be soon crashing into the top rankings of his division.
