IBF light flyweight Luis Alberto Lazarte (48-9-1, 18 KOs) of Argentina retained his title against now three-time world challenger Nerys Espinoza (29-6-1, 20 KOs) of Nicaragua. All three judges scored the bout 116-111. The event took place at the Club Once Unidos, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Osvaldo Rivero promoted the event.
Round 1 saw both fighters alternate being the agressor but it was Lazarte who landed the more frequent and accurate punches.
Round 2 was fought at a fast pace with each fighter trying to again impose their will but again Lazarte seemed to out land Espinoza.
Round 3 was marred by some clashes of heads,clinches, and low blows and could have gone either way as not much was landed by either fighter in terms of clear punches.
Round 4 saw the 5 ft. 1 champion Lazarte actually outboxing the 5 ft. 6 challenger Espinoza from a distance as he bounced in and out effectively.
Round 5 saw Lazarte outbox Espinoza for the first half of the round and when the fight went to close quarter he made Espinoza miss consistantly.
Round 6 was a solid one again for Lazarte as his money punch the lead right hand landed with regularity to the head of Espinoza. Espinoza was very agressive but just unable to land with any consistency.
Round 7 was fought inside close for nearly the entire round. Both fighters had success landing to the body and head. Round could have went either way as nearly was clearly dominant over the other.
Round 8 had both fighters exchanging well and on an even scale. Lazarte lead rights and left hooks highlighted the round
Round 9 was a fairly close round which had Lazarte close with a strong flurry upstairs to close out the round.
Round 10 seemed to be a good round for Espinoza as Lazarte seemed to slow down. The round was highlighted by a solid right hand landed by Espinoza.
Round 11 was all Lazarte as he bull rushed Espinoza into the corner to start the round and closed the round by sending Epinoza staggering into the ropes with a solid powerhots to the head.
Round 12 could have been a 10-8 round for Lazarate as his lead rights dominated the round and Epinoza was deducted a point by the referee for hitting on the break.
