Four time world title challenger Luis Alberto Lazarte of Argentina (43-9-1, 18 KOs) made short work of Pedro Cardenas (11-6, 6 KOs) of Chile stopping him in round two. The bout took place at the Club Once Unidos, Mar del Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was promoted by Mario Margossian. From the opening bell, Lazarte punished Cardenas with a barrage of body punches resulting in a knockown in round one. Cardenas got up at the count of eight and survived the round. In round two Lazarte picked up where he left off, trapping Cardenas against the ropes mixing body and head shots. At that moment the referee stepped in an gave Cardenas a standing eight count. Moments later Lazarte sent Cardenas to the canvas again with more crunching body punches and this time the referee waved the bout off without a count. Lazarte at the age of 38 retained his South American light flyweight title and is seeking a 5th opportunity at a world title. Among the most notable of Lazarte’s unsuccessful title challenges was against WBC champion Edgar Sosa in 2007.
