Australian based and Samoan born heavyweight Alex “Lionheart” Leapai (19-3-3, 15 KOs) will be back in action against former WBA heavyweight challenger Owen “What the Heck” Beck (29-5, 20 KOs) in a ten round contest at the Southport RSL Club in Queensland, Australia on August 12. Leapai scored his best win when he stopped American heavyweight Travis Walker (34-5-1) on June 30 in one of the best heavyweight battles seen in Australia for several years. Jamiacan born, but Nashville, Tennessee, USA based Beck lost in a WBA championship challenge against Giant Russian Nikolay Valuev in 2006. Tony Thompson stopped Beck, 34 years, in his most recent bout in four rounds.
Noel Thorberry, who trains and manages Leapai said, “Alex showed what he was made of against American Travis Walker, getting off the canvas to stop his much bigger opponent. Walker is a very good heavyweight who gave highly regarded Chris Arreola problems before he stopped him. Alex is world class in my opinion with world class power in both hands. Owen Beck has a very good record and has boxed several world rated heavyweights. He will be a good test for Alex.”
