IBF cruiserweight champion Hernandez stops Alekseev in ten; Leapai shocks WBO #1 heavyweight Boytsov
IBF cruiserweight world champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (28-1, 14 KOs) scored a tenth round KO over Alexander Alekseev (24-3-1, 20 KOs) on Saturday night at the Stechert Arena in Bamberg, Germany. Hernandez dropped Alekseev at the end of round two with a straight left. Hernandez scored another knockdown in round five. The bout finally ended in round ten when Hernandez dropped Alekseev again.
WBO #8 rated heavyweight Alex Leapai (30-4-3, 24 KOs) dropped previously unbeaten WBO #1 Denis Boytsov (33-1, 26 KOs) twice and won a ten round unanimous decision. Leapai dropped an exhausted Boytsov at the end of round seven and was credited with a second knockdown in round nine. Leapai was all over Boytsov in round ten and had Boytsov holding on to survive. Scores were 98-90, 96-92, 96-92 for Leapai. Had Boytsov won, he would have been the WBO’s mandatory challenger for world champion Wladimir Klitschko.
In an IBF light heavyweight title eliminator, Dmitry Sukhotsky (21-2, 16 KOs) scored a stoppage of Eduard Gutknecht (25-3, 9 KOs) after round four due to Gutknecht’s left eye swelling shut.
