Leapai stops Beck in 6th

Australian-based Samoan Alex “The Lionheart” Leapai (20-3-3, 15 KOs) 230lbs a scored a six round stoppage over former heavyweight contender Owen “What The Heck” Beck (29-6, 20 KOs) 250lbs of the USA at the Southport RSL club, Southport, Queensland, Australia Thursday. Beck came to fight and connected with hard combinations to the head and body of Leapai who stayed in the imports face delivering his own heavy artillery. Round five had Beck in trouble as Leapai scored with overhand rights hands and left hooks but the American survived to hear the bell. Leapai had Beck out on his feet in round six and referee Tony Kettlewell crowned the powerful Samoan. “I am boxing Danny Williams in four weeks – who knocked out Mike Tyson,” said Leapai. “I am The Lionheart and I will defeat Williams!”
Former 2004 Athens Olympian lightweight Ryan Langham (13-2, 5 KOs) boxed skillfully in round one against the aggressive Josh King (7-2, 4 KOs) who kept the pressure on his 6′ opponent. In round two referee Phil Austin deducted a point from Langham for infringements. Langham was dropped three times in round three and the referee crowned King the winner. Time 2.15. Langham’s only other professional loss came at the hands of IBF #10 Lenny Zappavigna.
Jr middleweight Casey Hannan (4-2-1, 3 KOs) boxed aggressively against clever Filipino Rey Anton Olarte (11-14-4, 2 KOs) of an action bout. Hannan continually cut the ring off but had trouble connecting with solid punches against the elusive Olarte. Both Hannan and Olarte boxing from the southpaw stance maintained a busy work rate that kept fans in attendance entertained. Olarte found the range for power shots to the head of Hannan that had him on unsteady legs in round three. In round four the ringside doctor ruled Hannan in no condition to continue after suffering a broken nose. Time :51
Heavyweight John Szigeti (7-1, 4 KOs) 223lbs scored a knockout in round one over Oscar Talemara (3-31-2, 1 KO) 244lbs after having him down twice from solid head and body shots. Time 2.11. Szigeti 6’6 is a former basketball star.
Heavyweight Anthony Fowler 261lbs stopped Steve Welge 229 lbs in round one when Welge’s shoulder was dislocated. Time :44.
Middleweight Shannon King was impressive in stopping David Brainbridge in round two after connecting with a power body shot. Time 1:26. King is a former Muay Thai star.
Former light heavyweight amateur star Tyrone Jones dropped Grant Kraymart in round one and slugged it out with his 6’2 opponent in all of the four contested rounds to be awarded the decision by scores 40-35, 39-36, 39-36.
