Junior heavyweight prospect Kevin Lerena kept his 100% knockout record since joining the professional ranks when he stopped Alex Mabaya from the Democratic Republic of the Congo at 55 seconds into the first round at the Turffontein Racecourse near Johannesburg on Thursday night. At the opening bell Lerena 4-0; 4 landed left and right combinations to the head of the 34-year-old Mbaya who has a reported record 1-4; 1. With Mbaya not fighting back referee Simon Xamlashe waved the fight off.
In an entertaining featherweight contest Prince Ndlovu outpointed Tembani Hobyani over six rounds. The scores were 57-56 twice and 58-55.
Middleweight Dwayne Combrink beat David Mngcombolo on a six round majority points decision. Scores were 56-58 twice and 57-57.
Forty five year-old veteran heavyweight Joseph Chingangu 27-9; 20 from Zambia outpointed Elvis Moyo who has a reported record of 2-3-1; 1 over six rounds in a dull encounter. The scores were 57-55, 58-54 and 59-53.
