Linares-Arakawa moved to PPV telecast

A lightweight fight between former two-time World Champion Jorge “Niño de Oro” Linares (35-3, 23 KOs) and exciting Japanese contender Nihito Arakawa (24-3-1, 16 KOs) that was originally scheduled to be a “freeview” bout leading into Saturday’s “Canelo vs. Angulo” pay-per-view event, will now open the PPV portion of the telecast. The change was made after an injury to Omar Figueroa forced the cancellation of his WBC lightweight world championship defense against Canelo’s brother Ricardo Alvarez, who will remain on the card and meet Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson (28-3, 26 KOs) on the non-televised portion of Saturday’s card at MGM Grand.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
