Linares in Venezuela

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Former WBC and WBA world champion Jorge “Niño de Oro” Linares has arrived in Venezuela from Japan to finalize his preparations for his March 27th comeback fight at the Polideportivo Jose Maria Vargas, La Guaira. Linares faces Francisco Lorenzo in his first fight since his shock KO1 loss to Juan Salgado last October in Tokyo. “I’m doing well, without problems and am happy to be able to come to fight here after almost five years,” said Linares. “I didn’t come for the holidays, I came to work. I needed this time to recover mentally. I thought I’d come back at 132 pounds or so. Nevertheless, this fight will be in the super feather category which pleases me because it’ll be a challenge for me. I’m happy me to fight again in my country and this is one of my motivations.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
