Lopez beats Santillan again

Last Friday at Club Cicilista Juninense, Junín, Buenos Aires, Marcelino “Nino” Lopez (21-0, 9 KOs) retained his WBC Latino lightweight title after beating Alberto “Puma” Santillán (17-7, 5 KOs) by split decision in a rematch, which is a hot candidate for “national fight of the year”, according to the experts. Lopez won the first fight by majority decision.

In addition, former WBA light heavyweight world champion Hugo “Pigu” Garay (34-5, 18 KOs) returned after 8 months of inactivity, to beat by decision Martin “Whip” Islas (11-24, 3 KOs) in a six rounder clash at cruiserweight.

Also on the undercard, Oscar Roberto Medina (21-5-2, 8 KOs) got the most important victory of his career winning the South American interim welterweight title with a seventh round TKO over Angel Amado “El Torito” Aguirre (6 -5 to 1, 3 KOs). South American champion in recess is Luis Carlos “Potro” Abregú (29-1, 23 KOs), who suffered an injury that keeps him out of the ring.
