Hot undefeated super bantamweight prospect Jose “Wonder Boy” Lopez (11-0, 9 KOs) scored an eighth round KO over Sergio Gomez (17-18, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Coliseo Rafael G. Amalbert in Juncos, Puerto Rico. Lopez was simply too good for Gomez, who took the fight on short notice. A left hook finished Gomez. “I feel great tonight, I learned a lot. I knew that I got him with good punches, but I didn’t want to get desperate. I knew that the KO was coming,” Wonder Boy said.

In the co-feature, undefeated lightweight Ken Alvarez (5-0-1, 3 KOs) won a hard fought six round unanimous over previously unbeaten Kevin Nieves (6-1, 3 KOs). Scores were 57-56, 58-55, 58-55. Nieves had Alvarez on the canvas and in trouble in round three.

In other results, mini flyweight prospect Angel Acosta (5-0, 4 KOs) scored a nasty fourth round TKO over the awkward southpaw Pedro Ortiz (2-2-1). Acosta dropped Ortiz three times in the fourth round.

Alberto Machado (5-0, 4 KOs) won a four round unanimous decision over José Del Valle; Yomar Alamo won a brutal first round TKO over Reymundo Santiago; Antonio Ortiz won by second round TKO over Jesus Llanos; Alex Nazario won a four round unanimous decision over Angel Velazquez; Alberto Mercado won a 6 round unanimous decision over Fauris Capellan and local favorite Josué Declet won a majority decision over Luis Hernandez.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
