The Upstate, New York boxing scene will start heating up the chill that has gripped the Northeast starting this Saturday, January 22 in Albany. Headlining “Fight Night III,” Ares Promotions’ first show of 2011 will be former world title challenger Emmanuel Lucero taking on Oscar Cuero in a featherweight ten rounder. Ares head Adam Neary is excited about his promotional outfit’s inaugural 2011 event, “This will be an intimate setting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel ballroom in downtown Albany. While it’ll be cold outside, this show will be hot, loud, and heat everybody up.”
Lucero may be best remembered for his unsuccessful IBF Super Bantamweight title challenge against current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, on July 27, 2003 in Los Angeles. The then undefeated Lucero lost in three, and has since been in with big names like Rocky Juarez, Jason Litzau and future world champions Daniel Ponce De Leon and Valdemir Pereira. Neary feels Lucero is ready for one more run at the title, this time at featherweight. “Manny is stronger at the higher weight, and taking his career seriously. We think he can make another run at the title at featherweight.”
Rounding out the card will be local capital region favorites Jackie Trivilino taking on Karen Dulin (feathers – 6 rds.), Sara Kuhn vs. Cassandra Lindsey (welters 4 rds.), Markus Williams against Lawrence Jones (super middles 6 rds.), Shawn Miller against Mark Anderson (light heavy 4 rds.) and Joe Yerdon vs. Rogelio Sanchez (light middle 4 rds.).
Neary added, “The setting at the Crowne Plaza wil be great. There is underground parking, the fight will be in the ground floor ballroom, the after party is at the hotel as well and best of all, if the weather turns on us, fans can get a room and stay the night!”
Fight time is Saturday at 7:00pm at Crowne Plaza Hotel Albany-City Center, 40 Lodge St., Albany, NY.
